📁 𝑮𝒆𝒏𝒓𝒆: Fantasy: YA, Dark Academia, Fantasy

If you love pretty writing, this is the book for you (other than those by Madeline Miller). From what I can tell, VE Schwab seems to be a pretty divisive author here on Bookstagram. You either love her or hate her. And thankfully (?), I really enjoyed Gallant! This is my first Schwab book and I can safely that I am pleasantly surprised by her well crafted her prose is! Schwab managed to create an overwhelming sense of melancholy, goth, and overhanging darkness in this YA Dark fantasy. I’m not entirely sure if this can be classified as horror, but as a timid soul, I was horrified at certain/graphic scenes in this book!

Though the pace of the book was generally slow, my interest level remained high as I was dying to find out what on earth was on the other side of the fence. Schwab kept the tension and suspense high and never let go of it until the very last minute. There were only a few characters but I think this allowed Schwab to really develop her characters fully and explore each of them in further detail. Mostly plot-driven, I really enjoyed Schwab’s storytelling and Gallant is easily one of my better reads this year!

Finishing this beauty in 2 days just makes me crave for more of Schwab’s writing. I’ll definitely be checking more of her books out!!
