This book is about a strong-willed Jewish man, Lale Sokolov, who experiences the hardships of a concentration camp in Auschwitz-Birkenau during World War Two. He is assigned the role of tattooing numbers on newcomers to the camp.

He finds himself tattooing a woman, and slowly falls in love with her. In this true story, he vows to get him and the woman, Gita, out of this horrid situation.

What I loved about this book was how suspenseful things happened one after another, which kept me reading until the very last page. It really makes me feel what Lale is feeling, and when he goes through losses and sorrows, he just pulls through and moves forward. It is written very descriptively. Here are some quotes from the book:

“If you wake up in the morning, it is a good day.”

“To save one is to save the world.”

I would give this book a rating of 9/10. If you like books about the power of love and the triumph of the human spirit in the face of evil, this book would be the most suitable for you!
