Now in its fourth decade of publication, CSEA has succeeded in building up an international reputation as one of Southeast Asia"s premier academic journals. The primary focus of the journal is on issues related to domestic politics in Southeast Asian countries, regional architecture and community building, military, strategic and security affairs, conflict zones and relations among the Great Powers. The Editorial Committee is guided by the advice of the International Advisory Committee which is composed of eminent scholars from Asia, the United States, Australia and Europe.

Jürgen Haacke the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and the Director of the LSE Saw Swee Hock Southeast Asia Centre from 2016 to 2018. ; John Harley Breen is an international relations advisor who works with governments, businesses, think-tanks and NGOs. He previously worked as a Researcher at the LSE Saw Swee Hock Southeast Asia Centre and at the Department of International Relations at the LSE in 2017–19.
